Thermomix Blueberry Mint Smoothie Recipe

Thermomix Blueberry Mint Smoothie Recipe

This free recipe, blueberry mint smoothie, is the perfect introduction to all the amazing healthful beverages that can be made in the Thermomix! In today’s fast paced world getting your daily dose of fresh fruits and vegetables seems to be a challenge, but whipping up a quick fruit and vegetable smoothie is an easy solution.

This blueberry mint smoothie is one of the staff favourites here at alyce alexandra. The flaxseeds provide a big fibre hit that fills you up while the bananas and vanilla extract make for a deliciously creamy drink, even without dairy! Try adding 50g of baby spinach for some extra health benefits (don’t worry, no one will taste it!).

Why a smoothie over a juice?

One of the main reasons we think smoothies are a better option than juices is the healthy fibre that your body gains from a smoothie. The nature of juicing is to extract the liquid from fruit and vegetables and leave out the pulp, which contains fibre. But we think that this fibre is fantastic! It’s fibre that keeps the digestive system healthy. Eating more fibre can reduce the risk of bowel cancer, diverticular cancer, haemorrhoids and can relieve constipation. Fibre also keeps hunger and blood sugar in check, and a smoothie makes you feel full, which may help reduce overeating.

We’re not saying you shouldn’t have juices. But a smoothie offers all of the wonderful vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients that you would get from a juice, with added healthy fibre. So try our blueberry mint smoothie, or experiment with your own flavour combinations.

Ingredients

1 tbsp flaxseeds
2 bananas
200g blueberries, frozen
Small handful mint
1 tsp vanilla extract
400g water, chilled

Method

  1. Place flaxseeds in TM bowl, mill for 30 seconds, speed 9.
  2. Add bananas, blueberries, mint, vanilla extract and 50g of water, pulverise for 20 seconds, speed 9.
  3. Set timer for 1 minute, continue on speed 9, slowly adding the remaining water over the MC.

Drink immediately - smoothies with flaxseeds don’t store well as the flaxseeds continue to absorb liquid making the smoothie thick and lumpy!
