Alyce's Lucky Dip Salt

We take a zero-tolerance approach to bland. We also take a zero-tolerance approach to food waste.

Every packet of our salt is hand-made, hand-packed and hand-labelled, and every now and then something comes out not quite right. A label goes on wonky, one of us loses a fight with the heat sealer, or a batch gets ground a little too fine or not quite fine enough. The packaging or the texture isn't what we'd normally send out, but the salt is still the salt: same real ingredients, same big flavour, well within date.

For a while, our family was quietly working through the not-quite-right packets at home. But we've officially fallen behind, and binning them was never an option (we hate waste in this business, but food waste offends us the most). So this is our solution: the lucky dip.

You'll get one 100g packet from the not-quite-right bin. It could be any flavour from our salt range, with a wonky label, an unusual grind, or both. You don't get to choose, and neither do we: it's whatever the bin gods provide.

  • The packaging might be damaged (scuffed, torn, crooked or crumpled), or the grind might not be our usual (sometimes finer, sometimes coarser), or both. The salt is always well within its best-before date, with exactly the right ingredients and all the flavour.
  • A different grind changes how the salt looks and sprinkles, not what's in it. Finer grinds pack more into each pinch, so season to taste.
  • Flavour is a genuine mystery. It could be any of our salt flavours, past, present or brand new. No swaps, no requests, no exceptions.
  • None of our blends are spicy, so whichever flavour you land on there's no heat to worry about. Some do contain a very small amount of chilli, but it's there for savoury depth rather than kick, and it's mild enough for everyone at the table.
  • Allergens: because you won't know which flavour you'll receive, the product you get may contain soy or sesame. None of our blends contain gluten or dairy ingredients, but they're hand-made in a commercial kitchen that handles both, so we can't guarantee they're completely free from traces of either. If any of these allergens are unsuitable for you, we recommend not purchasing this product.
  • Stock is limited and irregular, because (thankfully) mistakes aren't something we make on purpose.
