While I can buy a loaf of sourdough bread, nothing tastes better or is more satisfying than the loaf I made myself (and cheaper!). I could bring a purchased cake when visiting a friend, but the joy of bringing a perfect loaf of sourdough and saying "I made it!" can't be overstated. Hosting dinners is one of my favourite things in the world - there's a level of fun and intimacy that no restaurant can replicate. It's my act of service, my way of nurturing. Often I make my guests cook with me, chopping onions, peeling potatoes, all while we freely chat away. It's community, it's connection... and honestly most of time what I'm cooking is very simple, just easy recipes straight out of my cookbooks coupled with a crusty loaf of sourdough or oily focaccia still warm from the oven. The bread gets all the WOW factor and makes the whole thing seem impressive, but honestly it couldn't be easier (and it was all done before my guests even arrive!). Cooking well does not mean cooking fancy. Ultimately, the subtext of everything homemade is, "this is cooked with love because I care about you." Same goes if you've cooked it just for you - what an act of self love.
Whether you’re brand new to sourdough or you’ve dabbled in the past and fallen out of the routine, this is your friendly nudge: you can bake beautiful, real sourdough at home, in a real-life schedule, with simple tools and simple instructions. You don't need to be a baker! You just need our cookbook Simple Sourdough. True beginners and those already with the book, keep reading, I've got tips for both... we're in this together 💪

But Don't I Need a Sourdough Starter?
You’re right – real sourdough does need a starter. But it doesn’t need to be complicated, scientific or high-maintenance. Anyone can do it in their home kitchen with a jar, flour and water. Simple as that! In Simple Sourdough, we walk you through exactly how to make your own starter from scratch, using kitchen staples.
Inside the book, you’ll find:
- A clear, day‑by‑day guide to creating your first starter
- Photos and descriptions so you know what “healthy and active” actually looks like
- What to do if things go off track (because real life happens)
- How to care for your starter long term in a way that fits your lifestyle
This is not a sourdough science lesson. It’s a short, focused cookbook for real people who want reliable bread without needing to become a full‑time baker. Our goal is simple: get you from “I’m curious” to “I baked that!” with as few hurdles as possible. And trust us, the testimonials speak for themselves!
Alternatively, got a sourdough-baking friend? Ask them for some starter! There's always plenty to go around. Once it’s been gifted to you, it’s easy to maintain forever — a lasting gift that continues to give ☺️
Already Have the Book? Here's Your 2026 Reset...

If you already own Simple Sourdough but your starter is snoozing in the back of the fridge (or you let it go completely!), this is your gentle reminder: you are absolutely still a sourdough baker - it's like riding a bike. You just need a tiny restart!
A few ideas to help you get started again:
- Set a weekly “bread date”. Pick one day each week you’d like fresh bread (maybe Sunday brunch or Saturday lunch) and work backwards using the book’s timing suggestions. When it’s in the calendar, it’s much easier to stick to. I love the weekend bake - a fresh loaf and the starter fed.
- Start with your most forgiving loaf. Go back to the beginner white loaf or your favourite “wins” from the book. Familiar recipes build confidence quickly. Mine is absolutely the Sourdough Focaccia - no shaping or proving basket required.
- Keep the starter low‑maintenance. Use the fridge‑storage tips from Simple Sourdough so you’re feeding once a week, not every day. Sourdough can absolutely fit around work, kids and busy schedules. The once-a-week feed is all totally doable for me! The daily feeds not so much.
- Make use of “almost there” loaves. Even if your loaf is a bit flatter or denser than you hoped, it can still be delicious as toast, bruschetta, croutons or breadcrumbs. Nothing needs to be wasted. Honestly, I reckon your worst homemade loaf will still be miles ahead a purchased one... seriously!
- Revisit the fundamentals. Refresh your memory on starter care, proving, shaping and our FAQs page – it’s amazing how a quick re‑read can bring it all back! And given how short and sweet we kept everything in the book, you'll be back on track in just one sitting.
Remember, sourdough isn’t about perfection. It’s about a simple rhythm: feed, mix, rest, bake, enjoy. And it doesn't take long to become second nature! (click here to acess free resources)
