Free Recipe · Thermomix Main Meals
A mild, creamy, kid-friendly prawn curry that steams together with the rice in one go on your mat. Barely any cooking, barely any washing up.
This kid-friendly coconut prawn curry steams in the Thermomix in about 35 minutes with just six everyday ingredients, and the recipe serves 2, or 3 on the larger TM7 mat.
I'm not even sure I can call this cooking, it's that easy. Using ingredients commonly found in the fridge and freezer, ideally you shouldn't even need to hit the shops. It's a milder, kid-friendly version of a curry, using more creamy coconut and less spice, so the whole family can dig in. Swap the prawns for cubed tofu for an easy vegetarian and vegan option. If you'd like a more grown-up, full-flavoured version, try my Easy Thai Green Prawn Curry instead.
The hero here is our Silicone Steaming Mat for Varoma. It holds everything in place while the steam circulates, so the prawns and sauce gently steam to perfection up top while your rice cooks in the bowl below, all in one hit. Once you've got one, you'll wonder how you ever steamed without it.

Method
Fill TC bowl with 1L room temperature water. Place the rice (if using) in the TC steamer basket, rinse well under running water and insert into the TC bowl. Place the lid on, then the steaming tray on top.
Position the Silicone Steaming Mat onto the upper steaming tray. Spread all the ingredients evenly across the Mat. Steam 23 min / Varoma / speed 4 (TM7: use steaming function). Give everything a stir to combine, then serve.
To serve
Ladle the prawns and sauce over fluffy rice, or serve on its own with extra veggies thrown in. You'll only have the Steaming Mat to wash (pop it straight in the dishwasher); the bowl and Varoma just need drying. There isn't even a knife and chopping board to worry about.
